Notes from The First Grade Team:

First grade is a time in your child's development when they hone in on their reading skills. A review of the sound-spelling cards learned in Kindergarten (their initial phonemic awareness) will pave the way to new phonics skills with additional letter sounds, such as dipthongs, digraphs, long vowel sounds, and more skills to increase your child's vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.

The first grade teachers have tested their students' reading levels using Accelerated Reader (AR) to determine their "ZPD" level.  You should have received a letter to inform you what your child's level is.  We want to emphasize your support at home by reading to them and with them, using books specific to their AR level.
